Specifications for silica-fume concrete have been handled in two ways:

First, state DOTs all follow their own preferences writing specifications and typically do not use a standard format. DOTs have elected to specify silica-fume concrete in a variety of formats, depending upon how their overall standard specification is organized.

Second, for specifications based upon the sixteen-division format established by the Construction Specifications Institute, silica-fume concrete is usually covered in a separate section within Division 3. This section will point out any differences between the general concrete covered in Section 03300 and the silica-fume concrete.

The Silica Fume Association will be preparing Guide Specifications for Silica- Fume Concrete in a format suitable for use by a state DOT and in a format following the CSI guidelines. Check the SFA web site to see when these guide specs will be available.
