These provisions were taken from the 1998 version of C 1240. Note that this specification is being changed on a frequent basis; therefore, be sure to check the most current version.

The provisions in this specification are intended to ensure that silica fume is a consistent material that is representative of the silica fume that has been used on other projects in the past. These provisions do not necessarily indicate how the material will perform in concrete. The only way to determine how a particular silica fume will perform in concrete is to test using the project materials and the project mixture proportions.

Silica fume not meeting the requirements of C 1240 may also perform well in concrete. Again, test using project materials and project mixture proportions.

ASTM C 1240, Silica Fume for Use as a Mineral Admixture in Hydraulic- Cement Concrete, Mortar, and Grout.
