On several projects, designers have specified a very high modulus of elasticity to stiffen a high-rise structure. Modulus of elasticity of concrete is largely determined by the modulus of elasticity of the aggregate. Adding silica fume increases the modulus by binding the aggregate particles more tightly into the paste matrix.
