Columns in high-rise structures benefit from high-strength concrete because
the size of the column can be reduced. Although the higher strength
concrete may cost more, the savings in forming and reinforcing steel will
usually offset the increases in materials cost. Owners may benefit
significantly over the life of a structure from increased rentable floor
space.
