This section of the presentation describes the use of silica-fume concrete to
improve the constructability of a major project. Facing very stringent limitations
on the maximum allowable concrete temperature in place, the contractor elected
to use a combination of portland cement, fly ash, and silica fume to reduce the
amount of heat generated by hydration and to provide sufficient early strength for
form stripping.
